Beach Adventures You Shouldn’t Miss when Visiting Asia

Are you planning a beach vacation in Asia? It’s no surprise - the world’s largest continent has some of the best in the world. With a huge variation (there’s everything from wonderful water sports beaches, to tranquil white-sand paradises), you’re sure to find something that suits your travel style.

To make it a little easier, we’ve put together a list of some fun beach activities you can do in Asia. Not only that, but we’ve also listed the best places you can do said adventures. Let’s check them out!

Stand up Paddle Boarding in Bali, Indonesia

Bali is the best place to stand up paddle board - as you have so many beautiful places and it’s easily accessible. There are many beginner classes on Kuta Beach, while once you’ve got more experience you may want to head out to somewhere like the GILI Islands and paddle from the beach to beach.

Other great places to stand up paddle board in Asia: Koh Tao (Thailand) Lan Ha Bay (Vietnam), Kampot (Cambodia), Goa (India) - especially for SUP yoga. The beauty of SUP is that you can do it pretty much anywhere!

Surfing on Siargao Island, Philippines

Stand up paddle boarding was often done by Hawaiians (where the sport was invented) when there wasn’t enough wind and waves to surf. But what about when there is? Surfing is not only one of the most popular board sports in Asia, but the entire world. But the great thing about learning here is that it’s the cheapest place to do so.

You can find surf lessons at places like Urbiztondo Beach and Boracay in the Philippines for as little as 400 pesos per session (that’s less than $10 USD).

However, the best place to surf in Asia is Siargao Island. Cloud 9 Beach in General Luna is suitable for surfers of all levels and the peak season is from May to November.

Other great places to surf in Asia: San Juan de la Union, Boracay (Philippines), Bali (Indonesia), Arugam Bay (Sri Lanka), Phuket (Thailand), Okinawa (Japan).

Full moon party on Koh Phangan, Thailand

Of course, not all adventures have to be related to sports and exercise. Full moon parties are once in a lifetime events for many travelers and Haad Rin’s on Koh Phangan is the stuff of legend. Get yourself a bucket, enjoy the fire shows, and party till well after the sun comes up. When the beach does become a huge open-air nightclub, you can find as many as 30,000 revelers!

Other great places to party in Asia: Ko Phi Phi, Koh Tao, Phuket (Thailand), Koh Rong (Cambodia), Bali (Indonesia).

Scuba Diving at Tioman Island, Malaysia

One of the most popular beach activities (though it doesn’t take place on the beach itself) is scuba diving. With the Indian, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans lapping against the land, there’s so much to see when it comes to marine life. One of the best places to dive is at the intersection of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, which is also known as the Coral Triangle. This is one of the most biodiverse areas in the entire world, and divers flock to see rays, tropical fish, and sharks.

Other great places to scuba dive in Asia: Komodo Island National Park (Indonesia), Tubbataha Reef (Philippines), Koh Phi Phi, Ko Samui (Thailand)

Snorkeling at Cape Maeda, Japan

Those who enjoy seeing marine life but don’t want to scuba dive can enjoy snorkeling instead. Though you won’t get as deep, there are still opportunities to see underwater worlds. Think dazzling coral reefs, brightly colored tropical fish, gentle turtles, and fearsome sharks. It’s all there to see!

If you’re not a confident swimmer or diver, there is another solution where you’ll still get to see marine life up close and personal. That’s sea walking. With this, you’ll be attached to a rope underwater and have a heavy helmet to aid your breathing. Two great places to do this are Bali (Indonesia) and Sabah (Malaysia), but it is gaining in popularity across Asia.

Other great places to snorkel in Asia: Gili Islands (Indonesia), Palawan (Philippines), Koh Rong (Cambodia), Phu Quoc Islands (Vietnam)

Kite Surfing and Wind Surfing on Mui Ne Beach, Vietnam

Mui Ne Beach in Vietnam was once an isolated fishing village but it has become a hotspot for adventurers - especially those who want to kitesurf. Come to the southeast coast of Vietnam between October and April for the best conditions and pick up a board at one of many local surf schools. While Mui Ne benefits from strong winds, rainfall is rather low here making it ideal for board sports and other beach activities too.

Mui Ne is roughly 4.5 hours from Ho Chi Minh City.

Other great places to kite surf in Asia: Boracay (Philippines), Hua Hin (Thailand) Bali (Indonesia), Mannar (India), Hikkaduwa (Sri Lanka)

This versatile sport has a number of variations too - you could find your inner peace with a spot of sunrise SUP yoga, or tackle the waves with surf SUP.

Conclusion

Stand-up paddle boarding is a great board sport to try out when traveling. It allows you to get a full-body workout without exerting yourself too much while exploring and discovering new beaches and parts of the world at the same time.
