If you have plans to travel to Italy, you will need a visa but it is conditional on your original Nationality. Being one of the Schengen countries, travelers can stay up to 90 days without a visa for Italian Residents and the same applies to EU & EEA or Swiss nationals. There will be different purposes of travel to Italy like tourism, business, medical treatment visits, or a student/education visa. You can also apply for a Short Stay Visa to Italy. If you are a non-Schengen traveler, you need some important documents to apply for the Italian Visa (although you can also travel to Italy on Schengen Visa). The documents will be required as per the type of visa being applied for. For business travel, you will need different documents and for a tourist visa, you will be asked for a different set of records. Though not very complicated but the list of required documents is huge, including the following: - 

 

1. Visa Application Form
2. Passport or travel document (copies of previous visas) & pictures which must not be older than 10 Years and valid for at least three months from the day you leave Italy or the Schengen area. 
3. Travel Health Insurance is required to travel to EU countries, for Italy, the insurance must be minimum of 30,000 Euros. 
4. Status Documents including marriage certificates, death or birth certificates, where applicable are a must.
5. Hotel & Flight Bookings (proof of travel and accommodation) starting from the day of arriving in Italy to departure are needed.
6. Financial means declaration documents are required to prove that you can support your visit. These include the bank statements, copy of credit card to be used, and host’s account statement of sponsored.
7. A cover letter showing the reason for travel and relationship with sponsor individual.
8. Documents of Employment status will assist the authorities to know if you are a tourist, businessman, or a student. If employed, you will need to bring the contract letter, 6-month salary statement, and details of the employer.

Italy Self Declaration Form

 

This form is also an essential requirement when traveling to Italy. In this form, you will state the symptoms you are suffering or otherwise, you remained infected or not, and your agreement to the safety measures being adopted in Italy. It is an official document that is required for all travelers to prove that the information which is being provided with regards to COVID – 19 is factual. It is an additional effort being put in to overcome the threat of the spreading pandemic. 

 

The traveler will affix this form duly signed and after filling as correct, along with other documents. Travelers from some EU countries, United States, Canada, and Japan will be asked to bring along COVID – 19 Green Certificate to prove that the traveler is vaccinated, recovered from COVID, has a negative result, and is safe to travel to Italy. This document will serve as the Italy Self Declaration form and they do not need to be quarantined on arrival. Despite all proves above, the travelers are bound to provide their contact information and flight history, and details. 

 

This document will bind you to all the legal laws adopted in the host country to control the spread of COVID – 19.

 

Up to 90 Days without Visa for Selected Nationals

 

All EU and EEA nationals are permitted to travel to any of the Schengen countries without any requirement of a visa, same policy holds good to travel to Italy for up to 90 days within 180 days.

 

Staying for Over 90 Days

 

However, in case these travelers intend to stay in Italy for more than 90 days, they will have to register with the Italian Immigration Authorities.  

 

Travel Insurance 

 

When staying in Europe, all the visitors must be able to handle the financial requirements arising for their medical coverage in case of an accident or other emergency. It also covers emergency evacuations, repatriation of body / remains return of a minor, trip cancellation, and baggage damage and loss issues. This insurance is mandatory for all those travelers who need a Schengen Visa. Travel or health insurance is recommended to all those who travel to Europe so that all the emergencies could be dealt with immediately and conveniently. Minimum insurance for the Schengen Zone amounts to 30,000 Euros. Travel Insurance must be able to cover the medical expenses for all the Schengen states. The most critical part of applying and obtaining the Insurance is that you must ensure that the company which is providing you with the insurance is registered/licensed and accepted in the Schengen countries you intend to travel to. 

 

Does Schengen Visa Insurance Cover COVID – 19?

 

Some of the Schengen Insurance policies do cover the medical treatment, medicines, and tests related to the CORONA virus. The only requirement from the visitors is that they must follow the laws and travel restrictions imposed by their country as well as the host country. However, the accommodation facility for the quarantine is not covered under travel insurance. 

 

Under prevailing pandemic conditions, there may occur chances that your flight schedule or complete travel plan is disturbed. Under such circumstances, you can always get an extension of your insurance but for that, you will have to pay an additional amount.
